ODOT and Clatsop County are seeking public input to plan transportation improvements
ASTORIA - Clatsop County and the Oregon Department of Transportation are working together to plan improvements for the roadways in and around Miles Crossing and Jeffers Garden. To help gather public input, the project team has scheduled the first of two public meetings on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Elementary School cafeteria (92179 Lewis and Clark Road).
At the workshop, the public will learn about the project, discuss community needs and brainstorm ways to improve area transportation.
“The project team would like to tap into community expertise to see how we can improve transportation in the area,” said Ingrid Weisenbach, ODOT Planner. “These plans often drive what projects move forward, so we would like to hear from area residents and visitors about how we can work together to meet their needs.”
The plan will:
· Identify ways to maintain local and regional through traffic mobility along the highway;
· Look at circulation needs of the two rural communities;
· Consider potential future road connections to serve future development;
· Explore potential access management measures to improve safety and protect the capacity of this section of highway;
· Analyze potential bicyclist and pedestrian improvements; and,
· Develop potential safety and design improvements at the Miles Crossing intersection, the Old Youngs Bay and Lewis and Clark bridge areas as well as along the highway.
Project completion is anticipated in spring 2009.
U.S. 101 Business in northwest Clatsop County connects the cities of Astoria and Warrenton, while passing through the rural communities of Miles Crossing and Jeffers Garden. This section of U.S. 101 Business serves local traffic and is an alternate route to U.S. 101.
