SHERIDAN  – On Oct. 27, at 11 a.m., project staff and a small number of local officials will meet on the northeast corner of the intersection of Red Prairie Road and Oregon 18 for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of ODOT’s Red Prairie Road Project.

Attendees are advised to bring an umbrella and appropriate footwear as the event will be held outdoors on a small section of grass.

In order to reduce the amount of crashes resultant from turning movements, the project included installation of a flashing red light and widening the turn radii at the intersection so drivers have better sight distance.

“The flashing red light should give a visual cue to drivers to watch for vehicles entering or exiting the highway,” said Area Manager Tim Potter. “Anytime cars have to cross or merge with highway traffic, there is an increased crash risk. This signal and widening makes the intersection safer, but drivers still need to be attentive when approaching places where cars might access or exit a highway, especially if turning across traffic.”

Improvements to this intersection was done as part of the larger Oregon Coast Highway – Oldsville Road paving project, which should also be completed this summer.
