ODOT extends 25 mph speed zone on Old Youngs Bay Bridge
ASTORIA – ODOT approved a reduction to the maximum speed on the Old Youngs Bay Bridge. The effective speed limit is 25 mph for the entire length of the bridge.
“Crews noticed that drivers weren’t slowing down, and our bridge inspector noted the deck was rapidly deteriorating,” said ODOT Assistant District Manager Steve Carter. “Slower traffic, especially truck traffic, will help prevent further damage to the bridge until we can replace the deck in the spring.”
Signs should be installed within the week.
ODOT plans to replace the deck on the Old Youngs Bay Bridge in spring 2010 and will likely require closure of the bridge with a detour along U.S. 101 while the deck is being installed.
