ODOT road conditions on north coast
11/13/2008
Overnight flooding keeps road crews busy
Crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation are working across the northern Oregon coast this morning as flood waters created traffic problems overnight.

U.S. 101 at mile posts 23 - 24, just south of Seaside, is conditionally closed.  High profile vehicles will be guided through the high water area by pilot car. Low profile vehicles will not be allowed through as the standing water may cause stalling and create further safety concerns.

The detour route follows Oregon 202, Oregon 103 and U.S. 26.

Also on U.S. 101, higher waters in northern Tillamook have blocked the highway.  A signed detour is in place.

Oregon 6, Wilson River Highway, is closed from mile post 15 – 49 as crews deal with a mudslide that has washed debris across the highway. Crews will continue to work from both sides of the slide area and hope to have at least one lane cleared today.  Depending on the condition of the underlying road, crews will determine whether or not further repairs are needed before traffic can safely travel through the area.

ODOT bridge crew staff has been dispatched to Tillamook County to inspect roadways and structures for damage.

ODOT staff will inspect roadways throughout the day, so please drive with caution as crews work on the roadside.

Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution through the area.  Avoid hard breaking in high water as that could cause loss of vehicle control.

“You can visit www.tripcheck.com to get the latest information on road conditions,” said ODOT Public Information Officer Adam Torgerson. “As winter approaches, we also encourage people to visit ODOT’s Web site, www.oregon.gov/odot for more information and winter driving tips.”

Editor's note: ODOT crews are working in Tillamook County to inspect the road and highway structures.  They are not directly assisting Tillamook County at this time.
