| Oregon 6 likely to open today |

TILLAMOOK – Wednesday night’s mudslide on Oregon 6 clogged a culvert and took out a large section of guardrail on the Wilson River Highway, as mud and debris flowed over the road.
Crews have cleared a large amount of debris from the road and are optimistic that the highway will be opened today.
“We have the highway cleared and culvert partially cleared,” said Assistant District Manager Steve Carter. “We have to redirect runoff through the culvert and install barricades where the mudslide ripped out guardrail.”
The abrupt edge and steep drop on one side of the highway, coupled with heavy construction equipment on the roadway make it unsafe to open to traffic at this time. Emergency service vehicles have been able to make it through the area since early Thursday.
“It looks like the roadbed is stable,” said Carter. “When we can get this stream aligned and barriers up, we should be able to open the road.”
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, such as U.S. 26 to Oregon 53, until Oregon 6 is reopened.
