| Truck crash closes I-5 south of Halsey exit |
|
| 11/25/2007 |
HALSEY -- Icy conditions caused a semi truck and its trailer to jackknife across both northbound lanes of Interstate 5 about one mile south of the Halsey-Sweet Home Highway interchange (Exit 216) just before 5 a.m. Sunday. Several vehicles then crashed into the semi, closing I-5 northbound. There are no detour routes in place at this time.
Freezing fog has made a six-mile section of I-5 northbound between milepoint 209 (Harrisburg exit) and Exit 216 extremely hazardous. Several vehicles have crashed along this section. No major injuries have been reported.
Oregon Department of Transportation crews are spraying de-icer on the freeway, but slippery conditions persist.
It is unclear when the several wrecks will be cleared and I-5 northbound reopened.
