The group will recommend concepts for inclusion in the Environmental Impact Statement.
SALEM—A task force comprising Salem River Crossing Project stakeholders will meet from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the Salem Public Library’s Anderson Room at 585 Liberty St. SE. The task force will recommend concepts for inclusion in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the project oversight team. The EIS is a key environmental document required before a federally funded project can proceed to construction.
The City of Salem and ODOT appointed the 21 person task force to help develop recommendations for river crossing solutions. Members of the task force include leaders of neighborhood and civic groups on both sides of the river, public agency staff and representatives of associated interest groups. Task force meetings are open to the public and include time for public comment.
The City of Salem and ODOT are conducting the Salem River Crossing Project to develop solutions for crossing the Willamette River in the Salem-Keizer metropolitan area that meet transportation needs, are compatible with the built and natural environments and have broad community and regional support. The project will build on results of previous studies and will include development of an EIS and funding strategy.
