ODOT video demonstrates cable chain installation
ASTORIA – The Oregon Department of Transportation is advising coastal drivers to carry chains and be prepared to use them if travel is necessary.
The National Weather Service has issued statements and warnings that indicate more snow and low temperatures will combine to create travel difficulties on the northern Oregon coast, especially through the Coast Range. ODOT crews will plow and sand throughout the area, but drivers should be prepared for icy roads and cold temperatures.
“Don’t leave home without tire chains,” said Public Information Officer Adam Torgerson. “If travel is unavoidable, bring chains and be prepared to use them.” Officials are concerned that rapidly changing conditions could strand unprepared motorists as storms settle over the area.
ODOT has created a short video to help drivers who have not installed tire chains in the past. ODOT Community Affairs Representative Joanna Ridgway demonstrates how to install cable chains in a short video available on ODOT’s Web site or on YouTube.
More winter driving tips are available on ODOT’s Web site.
