| ODOT postpones I-5/Goshen traffic switch |
|
| 12/19/2007 |
GOSHEN – The Oregon Department of Transportation has postponed a planned northbound Interstate 5 traffic shift to a new bridge over Highway 58 due to forecasts calling for heavy rain.
ODOT and its contractors had planned to shift northbound traffic to a new bridge over Highway 58 beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday -- ahead of anticipated heavy holiday traffic. Weather forecasts indicate heavy rain and strong winds through Thursday. Switching traffic during the inclement weather would pose a safety hazard to motorists and construction workers due to reduced visibility and the potential for standing water on the highway.
The traffic switch will be rescheduled to mid-January. No construction work on the project is scheduled between Dec. 21 and Jan. 2.
The work is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation’s I-5 McKenzie River to Goshen Grade project. Hamilton Construction, based in Springfield, is the lead contractor for the project. Hamilton is replacing five bridges and repairing two more to ensure the safe and free flow of traffic along the I-5 corridor. Construction work on the $60 million project will be finished by fall 2009.
