ODOT crews will sweep I-5 between Portland and Woodburn
12/23/2008
Holiday traffic and icy conditions combine to snarl traffic
SALEM – Icy conditions and traffic are slowing I-5 in both directions between Salem and Portland.

ODOT snow removal efforts may slow traffic further over the next two hours as crews team up to clear I-5.

ODOT crews from Salem will travel I-5 northbound, starting in Woodburn and creating rolling slowdowns as multiple ODOT vehicles clear ice and snow simultaneously. ODOT crews from Portland will travel on southbound I-5, clearing ice and snow as they travel.

Crews will use graders and plows, which clear the highway of snow and most ice accumulation. ODOT vehicles will travel in formation, allowing a single pass to cover most of the road surface.

Expect long delays on I-5 between Salem and Portland. Consider postponing travel or using alternate routes, if possible.
