ODOT crews working to keep coastal highways clear of trees
12/24/2008
Additional snow or ice may cause travel hazards

The Oregon Department of Transportation is working to keep coastal routes open as icy conditions and falling trees may cause intermittent delays for travelers this afternoon, depending on the weather. Crews will continue to clear trees, but drivers should be prepared for delays by following winter driving tips, especially bringing food and water, warm clothes and refueling before the trip.

Latest reports from road crews indicate that trees are not causing significant delays at this time, but additional snow or frozen rain could increase the chance of falling trees affecting area highways.

Chains or traction tires are required at higher elevations on all Coast Range highways north of and including Oregon 18 (Salmon River Highway). Please visit www.tripcheck.com for the latest conditions and chain requirements.

Oregon 22 (Three Rivers Highway) and Oregon 130 (Little Nestucca Highway) are closed while crews work to clear the road of fallen trees. A path has been cut to allow access for emergency vehicles. Crews are working with private contractors to clear the road and are hopeful that Oregon 22 can be opened today. If additional trees continue to fall, that may keep those highways closed overnight for safety reasons.
