Main Street under Interstate 5 to close for one night as early as Jan. 7
12/28/2007
COTTAGE GROVE— Contractors for the Oregon Department of Transportation plan to close Main Street under Interstate 5 overnight as early as Monday, Jan. 7, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next morning to demolish the old southbound I-5 overpass bridge.

The Main Street closure will last only one night. Signs will direct local drivers to use alternate routes around the work zone. The demolition work will not affect I-5 traffic, which is currently on a detour bridge over Main Street.

The overnight closure will allow workers to demolish the old southbound I-5 crossing over Main Street and begin building a new bridge. The date of the demolition work depends on whether the contractor finds asbestos in the existing bridge.

This work is part of a larger project to replace three bridges and repair two bridges on I-5 in Cottage Grove.

Drivers should visit www.TripCheck.com or call 511 for the most current traffic advisories.
