GOSHEN – Contractors for the Oregon Department of Transportation will temporarily shift southbound Interstate 5 traffic to share the new northbound I-5 bridge over Highway 58 on Friday. Workers will begin the switch at 9 p.m. and finish by 6 a.m. Saturday.
I-5 traffic over Highway 58 will continue sharing the new northbound bridge until a new southbound bridge is completed in 2009.
During the switch, contractors will also temporarily move the southbound I-5 off-ramp to Highway 58 about one-third of a mile north of its current location. Drivers should watch for signs directing traffic to the modified Highway 58 exit after they pass the 30th Avenue off-ramp.
Drivers on I-5 at Highway 58 should watch for slow traffic, roadside construction equipment and workers. Minor delays are possible. ODOT scheduled the traffic switch for late Friday to minimize impacts on commuters.
Workers will divert Highway 58 traffic to demolish southbound I-5 bridge
Contractors will demolish the old southbound Interstate 5 bridge over Highway 58 during the week of June 9. Construction teams will do most of the demolition work between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Highway 58 traffic driving under I-5 will be detoured onto a temporary gravel bypass lane parallel to the highway during the demolition work. Flaggers will control traffic, and drivers should expect brief delays.
Construction dates may change due to weather conditions.
Drivers should visit www.TripCheck.com or call 511 for current traffic advisories.
