Public invited to open house in Aumsville on Albus Road SE overpass work

AUMSVILLE— The Oregon Department of Transportation is holding an open house to gather input on the OR22 Bridges Vertical Clearance Improvement Project that includes the Albus Road SE Overpass about 10 miles east of Salem near Aumsville.   The public open house will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on February 3 at the Aumsville Community Center, 555 Main Street.

ODOT is considering increasing the vertical clearance of the Albus Road SE overpass approximately 2 feet 3 inches to provide a minimum clearance of 17 feet above the highway.  The project will improve the vertical clearance at three other bridges over OR22 in order to reduce the number of oversized truck loads detoured from the highway on to local roads.

As an alternative to the cost of raising the Albus Road SE overpass, ODOT is also considering the possibility of completely removing the overpass. In that case, local traffic wishing to cross over Albus Road SE would instead need to use the Golf Club Road SE overpass.  It will cost less to remove the overpass and will eliminate the associated long term maintenance costs.

However, before any decision is made, ODOT would like input from the local public.  Construction will not begin until 2012.  The public is encouraged to attend the open house, meet the project team and review and discuss bridge designs, possible detours and construction schedule.

This year, highway survey crews will be working near the Albus Road SE overpass gathering information that will help plan the project.
