Urgent repairs to close two lanes of I-5 south of Cottage Grove
SPRINGFIELD— Motorists will be restricted to one lane of travel in each direction on Interstate 5 at milepost 169, south of Cottage Grove, Friday while the Oregon Department of Transportation makes urgent repairs to a small section of deteriorating concrete roadway.
“The ground under the roadway is such that the concrete is starting to crack. We have to act quickly on this to prevent a complete break-up of the concrete,” said ODOT District 5 Manager, Mike Spaeth.
Beginning at 7:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, the right-hand lanes of both northbound and southbound I-5 will be closed. Signs will direct motorists to merge into the left-hand lane through the construction zone. The closures will last until noon for the southbound lane and 4:00 p.m. for the northbound lane.
ODOT employees will cut and remove the deteriorating concrete and repair the roadway with asphalt pavement.
