ODOT to hold ribbon cutting event May 19 for Sublimity Interchange Project

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Sublimity Interchange Project on Wednesday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m.   Local and state officials, and other dignitaries, will participate in the special event commemorating the completion of the highway modernization project located at Oregon 22 and the Cascade Highway between Sublimity and Stayton.

The event will be held in the park and ride lot southeast of the interchange next to the newly constructed east bound entrance ramp.  The event is open to the public.

“The project will be completed on time and on budget.  But more importantly, the new interchange significantly improves the safety and operation of this important highway intersection,” said Jane Lee, ODOT’s Region 2 Manager.  “We look forward to celebrating the completion of this important highway modernization project that enhances safety and traffic flow while providing an integral economic development asset for the local communities.”

While some work on the interchange will continue into early summer, the major elements of the project should be completed by May 19.   The $18.8 million project began almost two years ago to correct a number of safety and operational issues.  The project includes:
  • New modern east bound and west bound ramps on to Oregon 22 that eliminate stops and allow traffic to quickly accelerate to highway speed;
  • Construction of four bridge over crossings at Cascade Highway and Mill Creek;
  • Realignment of Cascade Highway to the east to two lanes with a center turn lane;
  • Installation of a traffic signal on Cascade Highway at the east bound exit and entrance ramps;
  • Extending a four-lane section of Oregon 22 eastward for 1.7 miles to just east of Mill Creek, and extension of west bound travel lanes;
  • Adding a 650 foot long retaining wall along the new westbound travel lanes; and
  • Installation of a modern lighting system in the interchange.
