     Temporary Detour for I-5/Beltline motorists

SPRINGFIELD — Construction of improvements to the I-5/Beltline interchange will necessitate a temporary detour for motorists heading north on Interstate 5 from westbound Beltline.

A detour will begin at 10 p.m. Monday, June 28 and end at 9 a.m. Friday, July 2.

 Motorists wishing to enter northbound I-5 from westbound OR 569 (Randy Papé Beltline) will be detoured to the Coburg Road exit where they will turn left and then re-enter Beltline eastbound.  They will then use the eastbound Beltline ramp onto northbound I-5.

“The three-and-a-half day detour will give our contractor the time needed to connect the newly constructed northbound on-ramp to I-5,” ODOT Project Manager Chuck Lemos said.

The new on-ramp will be better aligned with other interchange improvements and provide a more efficient and safer entrance to I-5.

The improvements are part of the $11.5 million joint ODOT and City of Springfield project that will:
  • Add a new northbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound Beltline;
  • Construct a new northbound I-5 on-ramp from westbound Beltline;
  • Widen Beltline between I-5 and Hutton Street;
  • Widen Gateway Street between Kruse Way and International Way;
  • Construct a new sound wall on the west side of I-5 between Harlow Rd and Willakenzie Rd.
The project is scheduled for completion in July, 2011.

Second detour to occur in October
A similar detour will occur in October when the contractor connects the new I-5 northbound off-ramp to Beltline.  That detour is expected to be 8-9 days in length.
