Newberg Dundee Bypass DEIS public hearing scheduled June 29 in Newberg
SALEM— The public can comment on the Newberg Dundee Bypass Tier 2 Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) at a public hearing and open house scheduled for Tuesday, June 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Newberg High School, 2400 Douglas Ave., in Newberg. Presentations about the proposal will be held at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. The public will have two opportunities to provide public testimony at the public hearing and open house.
The Newberg Dundee Bypass Tier 2 DEIS was published in the Federal Register on June 4, opening up a 45-day public comment period. The DEIS is an important environmental document that will help the public and decision makers choose the design of the proposed Bypass project.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has been working closely with the local communities on proposing to build an 11-mile, four lane, access-controlled expressway around the cities of Newberg and Dundee to relieve congestion and improve downtown livability.
During the 45-day comment period, the public will have a number of avenues to review and comment on the document. The public comment period will close on July 19.
Printed copies of the Tier 2 DEIS are available for review at the following locations: the Newberg, Dundee, Dayton and McMinnville City Halls; the Newberg and McMinnville Public Libraries, George Fox University Library and Oregon State Library; Chehalem Park and Recreation District Community Center; Yamhill County Courthouse; ODOT Region 2 in Salem; and the Federal Highway Administration’s Oregon Division office in Salem.
In addition, the Tier 2 DEIS and a stand-alone Executive Summary is available electronically at the project website at www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/Region2/. A CD or printed copy of either of those documents may be obtained upon request by contacting Kelly Amador at 503-986-2874. The CD or documents are available free of charge and the Executive Summary is available in English and Spanish.
Members of the public can also comment on the DEIS in writing via email or letter to Tim Potter, or Kelly Amador, ODOT Region 2. The email addresses are james.t.potter@odot.state.or.us. and Kelly.l.amador@odot.state.or.us.
