Paving project on 99W from Newberg to Sherwood begins

The Oregon Department of Transportation has begun a paving project on OR 99W from Brutscher Street in Newberg to Sunset Blvd. near Sherwood (approximately 5 miles).  While much of the work will be done during the evening and nighttime, motorists can also expect periodic daytime lane closures, flagging and some delays.

The $3.8 million project consists of:
American Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades to pedestrian ramps at the Sunset and Brutscher intersections;Guardrail upgrades to meet current safety standards;Replacement of select signs to meet current standards;Adding rumble strips;Spot repairs to address base and roadbed failures; andGrinding off the old asphalt, re-paving and re-striping.

Weekend lane closures are allowed.  The construction work may be noisy, especially when machines are grinding and repaving the asphalt pavement.   Project completion is scheduled for October 31, 2010.
