Nighttime restrictions planned for Beltline/Gateway intersection

SPRINGFIELD — The intersection of Beltline Road and Gateway Street in Springfield will experience at least two weeks of nighttime traffic restrictions as a contractor for ODOT and the City of Springfield continues to make improvements to the I-5/Beltline interchange and Gateway Street.

From 10 p.m. until 4 a.m., beginning Monday, July 19, the intersection will be restricted to one lane in each direction and all traffic movement will be controlled by flaggers.

The restriction is expected to last at least two weeks to allow the contractor to install a temporary traffic signal, re-stripe the roadway and install a 36” storm water pipe beneath Gateway Street.

The improvements are part of the $11.5 million joint ODOT and City of Springfield project that will:
  • Add a new northbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound Beltline;
  • Construct a new northbound I-5 on-ramp from westbound Beltline;
  • Widen Beltline between I-5 and Hutton Street;
  • Widen Gateway Street between Kruse Way and International Way;
  • Construct a new sound wall on the west side of I-5 between Harlow Rd and Willakenzie Rd.

The project is scheduled for completion in July, 2011.
