Short closure planned for U.S. 20 construction blast near Eddyville

EDDYVILLE— The contractor working on the U.S. 20-Pioneer Mountain Loop – Yaquina River Project will detonate a small construction blast tomorrow, September 17, that will result in less than a 20-minute closure of U.S. 20, west of Eddyville near milepost 15.  Small blasts are also tentatively planned for Sept.  21, 24 and 28.

The blast will occur at approximately 10 a.m. Friday, September 17.  All traffic in both directions will be stopped far enough away for safety purposes.  The contractor and ODOT are taking every precaution to prevent blast debris from reaching the roadway; however motorists should be aware that a longer-than-planned closure could result.

If the blasting creates the chance for lengthy traffic delays or highway closures, ODOT will activate variable message signs at key locations to alert drivers to consider alternate routes.
Alternate routes include OR 34 between the coast and the Willamette Valley.  Large trucks should use OR99W/I-5 to OR 22 to OR 18 to the coast.

Please use caution when traveling through construction work zones.
