Open house scheduled Oct. 5 for U.S. 101/OR 6 Project
TILLAMOOK—The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will host an open house Tuesday, October 5 to review the alternatives for the U.S.101/OR 6 Project. The open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the 911 Center, 2311 Third Street in Tillamook.
The drop-in event will allow community members to review project information, find out how to become involved in the selection of a preferred alternative and talk with ODOT staff and consultants.
The project team is studying three alternatives in the Environmental Assessment:
· A no-build, or do nothing, alternative.
· An alternative that would replace the existing US 101 bridge with a new four-lane bridge.
· An alternative that would extend Pacific Avenue north across the Hoquarten Slough with a new bridge for northbound traffic. Southbound traffic would use the existing bridge.
All alternatives, except the no-build, include the construction of bike lanes and sidewalks across the Slough and wider lanes on U.S. 101 in downtown Tillamook.
ODOT has been working closely with the City of Tillamook, Tillamook County and community members to identify improvements to the congested U.S. 101/OR 6 intersections in downtown Tillamook. Over the summer, the project team studied the costs, benefits and impacts of these alternatives. Through this study, the team has refined the alternatives under study to reduce potential negative impacts.
The team expects to complete the project’s Environmental Assessment, a federally-required report that complies with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), in early 2011. Once the Environmental Assessment is released, community members will be invited to review the result of the analysis and provide input on which project alternative should be advanced.
The US 101/OR 6 Project received $27 million in funding from the Oregon legislature in 2009 and is expected to be constructed between 2013 and 2015. For more information, visit the project web site at www.tillamooktraffic.org.
