Construction at landslide on OR 18 to continue this weekend

CORVALLIS— A contractor working for ODOT will work through the weekend on landslide mitigation construction in order to take advantage of good weather.

As a result, motorists will experience intermittent single lane closures on OR 18 at milepost 11.3.  Flaggers will control travel in alternating directions and motorists should expect delays of 10-15 minutes during daylight hours.
  • What:  Single lane closures with traffic stops or delays of 10-15 minutes
  • Where:  OR 18, milepost 11.3
  • When:  Daylight hours Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17, 2010
  • Why:  Landslide mitigation construction

The construction, as well as the traffic impacts, will continue on weekdays until the project is completed at the end of October.

The contractor, Oregon Mainline Paving of McMinnville, is excavating twenty-five feet below the road grade and installing rock.  Rock is also being installed on a large slide area above the road grade in an effort to stabilize a landslide that has compromised the road’s integrity.

The $680,000 urgent project will construct rock buttressing, rebuild the roadway and repave the area.  When complete in late October, the road will return to its original design of two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane at the location.
