Siuslaw River Bridge deck work to result in short, overnight closures

FLORENCE — The U.S. 101-Siuslaw River Bridge will experience a series of short, temporary closures overnight beginning Thursday, October 28.
The work is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and continue until 2.a.m. Friday, October  29.
Motorists should expect 10-20 minute delays while the bridge spans are lifted and leveled.  The work is to align the movable bridge bascule spans in preparation for the installation of new span lock components.

New System to be installed the following week
The new span lock pins and sockets will be installed overnight on Monday, November 1, 2010.  Beginning at 10 p.m. and continuing until 5a.m. Tuesday, November 2, the bridge will once again be lifted and lowered until work is completed.

This phase of work will also result in delays of up to 20 minutes for motorists and there will be a single lane of travel with flaggers controlling traffic.  In the future, the remainder of the span lock system will be replaced with a new, more reliable system.  This work will be completed without further impacts to motorists.

The work is part of the $5.3 million repair and modernization project that is nearly complete.
