Detour encouraged on U.S. 20 near Toledo
TOLEDO — As bridge repair work continues, drivers are experiencing congestion on U.S. 20 between Newport and Toledo during morning and evening rush hours that is heavier than expected.
The Oregon Department of Transportation encourages motorists in passenger cars to avoid these traffic delays by detouring around the work zone on Yaquina Bay Road between Newport and Toledo. Signs will direct traffic to the detour route.
Yaquina Bay Road is not a freight route and freight trucks should remain on U.S. 20.
Drivers will continue to see alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 20 Mondays through Thursdays until contractors finish repairing all four bridges between Newport and Toledo, working from west to east.
All lanes on U.S. 20 will be open for the Thanksgiving holiday from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, until 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29.
