Public meeting scheduled for
Butte Creek Bridge Replacement Project

SALEM- The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will hold a public meeting for the Butte Creek Bridge Replacement Project at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17 at Butte Creek School, 37569 S. Hwy 213.  During the meeting, ODOT staff will present the project plans and schedule to area residents, and answer questions.

The bridge was built in 1931 and is located on OR 213 approximately four miles northeast of Silverton, on the border between Marion and Clackamas counties. Due to the age of the bridge and its current condition, it must be replaced.

The plan is to replace the bridge with a new single span bridge on a new alignment adjacent to the existing bridge.  This method of construction will enable the existing bridge to continue carrying traffic during construction.  The height of the new bridge will probably increase to improve storm flows and fish passage.  In addition, the new bridge will be wider and the bridge approaches raised to improve sight distance over the bridge.

The estimated total cost of the project, including engineering, right of way and construction is $5.28 million.  Construction is projected to start in the spring of 2012, with demolition of the old bridge possibly during the 2013 construction season.

For more information about the project and meeting, contact  Alan Fox, the project leader, at 503-986-2681 or alan.j.fox@odot.state.or.us.
