OR 6: At Wilson River Loop Road
Overview

This project will improve the intersection of the OR 6 (Wilson River Highway) with Wilson River Loop road. The intersection has a significant number of accidents, primarily from local traffic attempting to cross the high speed OR 6 (Wilson River Highway).

ODOT rates areas that consistently have crashes on a Safety Priority Index System (SPIS) which prioritizes sites by the number and severity of crashes. Fatalities or serious injuries consistently keep this site designated as a high priority safety problem.

W&H Pacific is contracted to engineer and design this project. The estimated project cost is $7.5 Million, with construction expected to begin late 2012.

Public Involvement
In 2008, ODOT held a series of public open house meetings to present early design options and receive input from the local landowners, business owners, trucking stakeholders and Tillamook officials. Through this public process an “Offset T” intersection alignment at Wilson River Loop and Schild Road was selected. The Offset T is a much safer configuration than the traditional crossing or “+” that exists today.

The next step is to create a detailed design of the Offset T intersection. W&H Pacific is currently working on those plans. Once a set of final plans has been produced ODOT will have another series of public meetings for the community to review them.
