What’s ODOT going to do?
The Applegate River Bridge on Redwood Highway will be replaced in 2013-2014.
Bids will be opened on February 7, 2013.
What’s the Problem?
This bridge, built in 1955, is structurally and functionally deficient and is in need of replacement.
Where will the new bridge be built?
Because US 199 (Redwood Highway) is a critical route from the Coast to Interstate 5, the new bridge will be built on the same alignment. Just downstream from the existing bridge, a detour structure will be built on the northwest side so the old one can be demolished and the new one constructed.
The new bridge is anticipated to be a new pre-stressed concrete bridge beam structure, nearly 44 feet wide and 547 feet long. The new bridge will have two 12 foot travel lanes – one lane in each direction- and 10 foot shoulders, wide enough shoulders for emergencies and for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Estimated Project Cost
$8 million
