Construction workers' goal is to get major work finished by summer driving season
Improvements are evident on Interstate 5 between Medford and Ashland.
Between now and Memorial Day, construction on the roadway will be on-going in the eight mile section of the interstate.
"My advice is to leave a little extra time, perhaps take an alternate route. We're working with the
contractor to keep the work zone safe, yet minimize traffic delays," said Project Leader Tim Fletcher.
To get the bulk of the work done before the summer tourist season, the contractor is accelerating the work.
"We're trying to keep the public informed through our weekly construction report published in the Mail Tribune and through radio spots," said Public Information Specialist Gary Leaming. "We also have project details on TripCheck.com."
The work, being performed by LTM, includes repaving the interstate shoulders, repairing defective areas in the existing roadway, rehabilitating the interstate bridges over Bear Creek between Phoenix and Talent, and applying a new six inch layer of asphalt. The paving work will be done at night. The Bear Creek bridge work will be delayed until next February to take advantage of the lower traffic volumes.
