Moving Toward 2006 Construction

While motorists may be weary of construction at the North Medford Interchange, planning continues for a 2006 construction date on the South Medford Interchange, located three miles south on Interstate 5.

"We’re still moving toward a contract date of February 2006, with construction starting that spring or summer," said Oregon Department of Transportation Project Leader Debbie Timms. "Right of way agents are currently contacting and conducting appraisals of impacted properties in the project area and final design is underway."

The Federal Highway Administration signed the project’s Record of Decision this summer, bringing to a close the Environmental Impact Statement. That project milestone allowed the project team to turn their focus to wrapping up the finer design details and securing property.

The $52 million South Medford Interchange project, a joint venture with the City of Medford, has been in development for more than five years. The primary purpose of the project is to solve traffic congestion and safety problems at the current South Medford Interchange.
