South Medford Interchange: Construction is underway

Construction has begun on the South Medford Interchange.

In March of 2006, Wildish Standard Paving of Eugene (www.wildish.com) bid $59.6 million and was awarded the project. Wildish has partnered with the Oregon Department of Transportation for another successful project.

Wildish has worked on other Rogue Valley projects, completing the Interstate 5 Medford Viaduct project prior to the contract deadline.

The South Medford Interchange project’s required environmental documents are complete. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has signed its Record of Decision in 2004 giving approval of the project and releasing federal funding. The Final Environmental Impact Statement is the culmination of more than a year of work responding to public and regulatory agency questions on the project. FEIS responses addressed categories of questions and comments rather than answer individual inquiries.

The South Medford Interchange project is designed to improve safety and congestion problems at the Barnett Road interchange area. By moving the interchange south to a new location, Barnett Road can function as a true local connector for local traffic.

The hallmark of the project is construction of a Single Point Urban Interchange for Medford. This design can quickly handle a large volume of traffic.
