US 26: Bridge Creek Bridge Project

The Project is located on US 26, less than one mile west of the town of Mitchell in
Wheeler County, Oregon.

Purpose of the Project
Bridge Creek Bridge appoximately 1 miles west of Mitchell, Oregon.

The bridge is aging and worn to the point that it needs to be replaced with a new structure built to modern standards.
 
The cost to replace the bridge is $2.75 million, and is being funded by  by the Oregon Transportation Investment Act (OTIA).

 
 
 

Schedule

Start of Work:   April 2008
Detour in Place:  April 2008 - October 2008
Construction Complete:  November 2008

Traffic Changes During Construction
  • The bridge will be replaced with traffic using a detour route on a county road that bypasses the work zone.  Measurable delays are not anticipated.
  • Traffic will be detoured for approximately 6 months, spanning the in-water work period.
  • There are no load limits for the detour route.
  • Access to two businesses, Route 26 Espresso and Cannon’s Tire Center, will remain open during construction.
