October 'Coffee with ODOT' in
Redmond last for 2006

The community is encouraged to join Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) team members for the final 2006 “Coffee with ODOT” on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Local Grounds Café in Redmond. The sucessful monthly event will go on winter break, as the Glacier-Highland Couplet and Maple-Negus Bridge projects near completion. The informal coffees are expected to restart in sping 2007, when construction of the US 97 Redmond Reroute Mainline Project begins.

This no-host coffee mixer begins at 8:00 a.m. Residents are encouraged to bring questions, comments, concerns and kudos regarding the Redmond projects. ODOT thanks community members for attending the coffee meeting and we look forward to seeing everyone again next spring.

About the Projects
The Glacier-Highland Couplet has corrected traffic snarls and heavy congestion that were a daily occurrence on Highland Avenue (OR126). Westbound OR 126 traffic now uses Glacier Avenue and eastbound traffic uses Highland Avenue. In addition, Ninth Street is one-way northbound and 11th Street is one-way southbound. The project includes wider sidewalks, landcaping--including trees, and a pedestrian undercrossing beneath the highway.

The Highway 97 Reroute project will create a new, less congested north-south travel option for residents and visitors of Redmond and give downtown businesses the opportunity to attract shoppers to a more peaceful area.

Once complete, the new north-south Highway 97 Reroute alignment will run between the canal and railroad on the east side of town from just north of Veterans Way on the south end, to just south of the O’Neil Highway junction on the north end. Several phases of the project have been completed, such as piping a portion of the irrigation canal, relocating the power substation, building NW Seventh Street, NE Second Street and NE Ninth Street. The Maple-Negus Bridge, which will span the railroad, the reroute mainline, the canal, and N. Canal Boulevard, will be completed this fall.
