OR 39: Community Meeting to Discuss Highway Improvements

The community is invited to attend an informational meeting, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, about a proposed highway improvement project along OR 39, southeast of Klamath Falls. The meeting will be in the cafeteria of Henley High School, 8245 Highway 39, Klamath Falls.

The purpose of the project is to upgrade the signal at the intersection of OR 39 and OR 140 East and to make numerous safety improvements to OR 39 near the Henley Schools. The project is in the preliminary stages and no construction date has been set.

Issues that need to be addressed at the OR 39/140 junction include upgrading the existing signal, increasing sight distance, providing pedestrian crossings and creating curbed center islands. Near the Henley Schools (between mile points 2.5-3.5 on OR 39), the highway does not meet current standards. Issues include increasing the width of the left-turn refuges and shoulders, and constructing bike lanes, sidewalks and curbs.

Representatives from the Oregon Department of Transportation will be available during the meeting to provide information about the proposed project. The public is encouraged to come, ask questions, and provide comments and suggestions.
