The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Santiam Pass road condition camera, in operation since 1996, ceased providing an image today. Crews anticipate installing temporary equipment within seven days, restoring a pass condition image until permanent equipment can be installed.

The Santiam Pass camera provides up-to-date images of roadway conditions at MP 80 on US 20 at www.tripcheck.com and on BendBroadband cable channel 48.

“We understand how critical this camera is to Oregonians and the millions of state visitors using our highways,” said ODOT Spokeswoman Julianne Repman. “We are working to remedy the issue in a timely manner,” she says.

ODOT, in cooperation with BendBroadband, transmitted the first Santiam Pass road condition image eight years ago using available used equipment.

“I would like to commend BendBroadband, ODOT Integrated Transportation System team members, and members of the Santiam Maintenance crew for working diligently together to extend the life of this equipment,” said Repman.

The permanent replacement equipment is estimated to cost between $15,000-$20,000 and will have a life expectancy of approximately ten years.
