The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is continuing to invest in Oregon’s future with roadway improvement projects throughout Oregon’s central region (ODOT Region 4). ODOT is committed to providing safe, efficient transportations systems. The following projects reflect ODOT’s commitment to make improvements as traffic numbers rise and to make the roadways safer and more efficient for drivers:
 
DESCHUTES COUNTY
Business 97, MP 19.82-19.86
, Bend
Wildish Standard Paving Company anticipates breaking ground on the Central Oregon Irrigation District (COID) and North Unit Irrigation District Canal (NUID) bridge project on Thursday, January 20, weather permitting.  Crews will work to fill the existing space between the current bridge and canal pipe with a control density fill (CDF) material, eliminating the need for a total bridge replacement. This bridge is located in Bend on Business 97 (3rd Street) near the junction of Butler Market Road and Mt. Washington Drive.
 
Crews anticipate working nights, Monday through Friday, 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with some daytime and weekend work possible. During working hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Signs, barricades, cones and intermittent use of flaggers will direct motorists to the appropriate lanes.  Access to businesses and on-and-off-ramps for the US 97 bypass will be fully accessible during working hours. This project is expected to be completed by April 1.  
 
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 129.77 – 129.68, between Bend & Redmond near Deschutes Market Road
Wildish Standard Paving Company is working to replace the Pilot Butte Canal Bridge, located north of Bend near Deschutes Market Road. Contractors anticipate switching traffic to the east side of the highway to on Tuesday, January 18. The construction speed is 45 miles-per-hour. Crews anticipate making a traffic shift to the east side of the highway in the weeks to come. Daytime traffic is not expected to be delayed during this construction project. Motorists traveling between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. may encounter traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.
 
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 113.9, north of Terrebonne
Wildish Standard Paving Company crews will be working on the highway shoulders at the BNSF Terrebonne Bridge Project, north of Terrebonne, throughout January.  Crews will be working near the intersection of U.S. 97 and Wimp Way during the week of January 17. Paving and striping work is anticipated to take place near this intersection during the week of January 24, weather permitting.
 
This bridge is located about one mile north of Terrebonne on U.S. 97 at milepost 113.9.  During the first phase of construction, crews will construct a new, two lane bridge with 10 foot shoulders to the west of the existing bridge. Traffic will remain on the existing bridge during construction.  Motorists will be routed to the new bridge in Fall 2005.  Following this traffic switch, crews will remove the existing bridge.
 
Crews anticipate working Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible.
 
O'Neil Highway, MP 0.0 - 18, North of Redmond
Weather permitting; crews will be performing paving work on the O’Neil Highway this week. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays of les than 20 minutes when traveling through this area.
 
JEFFERSON COUNTY
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 105.4 - 109.03
, South of Madras
Contractor crews have switched traffic to the new detour bridges to facilitate construction of the new bridges. Traffic will remain on the detour bridges through March, 2005.  Motorists are reminded to follow posted speed reductions through the construction site.
 
These two bridges are located 12 and 16 miles south of Madras on U.S. 97 at mileposts 105.4 and 108.9.  Crews anticipate working Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible. Motorists can expect delays of less than 5 minutes when traveling through this work zone. 
 
U.S. 26 (Warm Springs Highway), MP 116.36 – 116.80, West of Madras
Wildish Standard Paving Company is working to replace the existing, three lane Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail Road Bridge, west of Madras, with a new, wider, three-lane Bridge. The contractor anticipates reducing northbound lanes from two to one on January 19.  Reduction of the lanes will allow crews to begin demolition of the east side of the existing bridge.  Northbound traffic will remain in one lane until the completion of the new bridge in fall 2005. 
 
KLAMATH COUNTY
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 275
, Klamath Falls
Crews from Hamilton Construction Company are working to replace the U.S. 97 Bridge over California Avenue. Pile driving work is expected to create intermittent noise in the area, December 28 through February 20. The construction speed of 45 miles per hour is strictly enforced.
 
California Avenue is currently closed to through traffic between North 1st Street and Conger Avenue to facilitate construction of the new bridge. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the area. Additionally, Klamath Basin Transit will reroute bus service around the work area and temporarily remove two bus stops on California Avenue between North 1st Street and Conger Avenue during the road closure. This section of roadway is expected to be reopened in mid-April.
 
U.S. 97 (Dalles - California Highway), MP 275.8, Klamath Falls
Crews from Hamilton Construction Company are working to replace the U.S. 97 Bridge over Green Springs Drive. Traffic is currently reduced to one lane in each direction to facilitate bridgework. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays of less than 20 minutes when traveling through this work zone. The construction speed of 45 miles per hour is strictly enforced.
 
U.S. 97 (Dalles - California Highway), MP 200.3 - 202.3, North of Chemult
JAL Construction crews have suspended work at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Bridge Replacement Project and Passing Lanes Project in Chemult for the winter season. Work is anticipated to start at this site again in the spring of 2005, weather permitting.
 
U.S. 97, (Dalles – California Highway), MP 240.55 to MP 267.08 Spring Creek Hill to North Shady Pine Road Bridge Work, North of Klamath Falls
Contractors working for the Oregon Department of Transportation anticipate surveying, sign installation, concrete barrier placement and minor earthwork in the Spring Creek Hill to North Shady Pine Road bridge work area this week, weather permitting.  Motorists can expect minor delays.
 
Crews are working to repair or replace the Spring Creek Bridge (U.S. 97, MP 244), North Chiloquin Interchange Bridge (U.S. 97, MP 247.54), Barkley Springs Irrigation Canal Bridge (U.S. 97, MP 263.11), and Algoma Log Pond Bridge (U.S. 97, MP 265.65).
 
OR 39 (Hatfield Highway), MP 1.46, Near Malin
Contractor crews are working to replace the Drainage Ditch Culvert Bridge located at milepost 1.46 near Malin. Crews have rerouted highway traffic to new detour lanes to facilitate replacement of the aging timber bridge with a box culvert.
 
Work will take place in the area Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible. Motorists can expect delays of less than 5 minutes when traveling through this work zone.
 
WASCO COUNTY
I-84 over Webber Street, The Dalles
As of Friday, Nov. 12, traffic on I-84 has been reduced to one lane in each direction at mile point 83.5 in The Dalles.
Traffic has shifted to the east side of the interstate as contractor crews work to replace the west side of the Webber Street Bridge (U.S. 30). This alignment is expected to remain in place for two months. Once complete, traffic will be switched to the west side of the interstate for replacement of the east side of the structure. The entire project is expected to be completed by May 2005. The posted construction speed of 45 MPH is strictly enforced.
 
Webber Street between 2nd Street and 6th Street, The Dalles
Webber Street between 2nd Street and 6th Street, under I-84 in The Dalles, will close to through traffic for three nights beginning Wednesday, January 19, as crews work to install concrete beams on the bridge above. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during the Webber Street closure from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday night, January 19 through Saturday morning, January 22.
 
Motorists are advised to use caution, reduce speeds, and be aware of workers when traveling through the work zone.
