Event to Celebrate Start of Construction for Sunriver Interchange

The community is invited to join the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) in a construction kick-off for the US 97 at S. Century Interchange project from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Sunriver Chamber of Commerce.

The contractor, Hap Taylor and Sons, will begin construction of the grade-separated diamond interchange in March. During the construction kickoff event, members of ODOT’s project team and contractor staff will give an overview of the project, describe how the interchange will be built, and provide a preliminary schedule of construction events.

South Century Drive serves as the primary access to Sunriver and recreation areas in southern Deschutes County.  A full diamond interchange will be built to correct existing safety problems at the intersection and to accommodate an increase in traffic from projected population growth. The interchange will consist of two bridges on US 97. One will carry two lanes of northbound traffic and the other will have two lanes of southbound traffic. South Century Drive will go under the two bridges, which are separated by a 120-foot vegetative median. The final design includes landscaping and illumination.  The project is scheduled to be finished in late 2007 or early 2008.

The interchange is a partnership with state, federal, Deschutes County, Sunriver Resort, Sunriver Homeowners Association, Crosswater Homeowners Association and Vandevert Homeowners Association funds. The project is estimated to cost $10 million.

NOTE: The Sunriver Chamber of Commerce is located at 57100 Beaver Drive, Building 5, Suite 120.
