Central Oregon Road Construction
UPDATE: Week of February 27th

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is continuing to invest in Oregon’s future with roadway improvement projects throughout Oregon’s central region (ODOT Region 4). ODOT is committed to providing safe, efficient transportations systems. The following projects reflect ODOT’s commitment to make improvements as traffic numbers rise and to make the roadways safer and more efficient for drivers:
(Changes for the week are highlighted in blue)

DESCHUTES COUNTY
OR 126 (McKenzie Highway), MP 111
, Redmond
Highland Avenue is one way eastbound and Glacier Avenue is one way westbound. Ninth Street is one way northbound and 11th Street is one way southbound, between Highland and Forest avenues.

Crews are working to install the city of Redmond’s sewer line project along the north side of Highland Avenue.

Sidewalks along the north side of Highland Avenue are closed. Pedestrians should be aware that the sidewalks on the south side of the road will be closed in the next few weeks and they will need to find alternate routes through the area.

Intermittent closes of streets and alleys between Sixth and 12th streets may take place. Local business access will be maintained.  Signal work is underway at the intersection of Ninth Street and Indian Avenue. New poles are being installed. Work should not impact traffic.

US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 113.9, north of Terrebonne
Paving of the shoulders on US 97, 10th Street and Ditch Rider Road has been postponed until the weather improves. Crews may be working in the area. No delays.

Wimp Way at US 97 in Terrebonne is temporarily closed to through traffic to facilitate replacement of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad Bridge and to ensure motorist safety during construction at this intersection.

This bridge is located about one mile north of Terrebonne on US 97 at milepost 113.9.  During the first phase of construction, crews will construct a new, two-lane bridge with 10-foot shoulders to the west of the existing bridge. Traffic will remain on the existing bridge during construction.  Motorists will be routed to the new bridge in fall 2005.  Following this traffic switch, crews will remove the existing bridge.

Negus Way, Redmond
Bridge work continues at Negus Way, from North Canal Boulevard to the east side of the railroad tracks. Crews are constructing retaining walls and bridge supports. Drilling will continue near the canal for the column footings.

Negus Way is closed between North Canal Boulevard and NE 5th St.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the closure area, including the usage of the newly completed NE 9th Street extension location between Negus Avenue and Hemlock Avenue. Patrons of Xtreme Fitness will use the newly completed NE Second Street bridge to reach the business.

US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 152-154, at South Century Drive, near Sunriver
Utility relocation will take place during the week, as crews prepare to start work on the new Sunriver Interchange. No delays.

A full diamond interchange will be built to improve safety and operations at the existing intersection and to accommodate an increase in projected traffic. The interchange will consist of two-lane bridges for both north- and southbound traffic on US 97. South Century Drive will go under the two bridges, which are separated by a 120-foot vegetative median.

JEFFERSON COUNTY
US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 92 and US 26 (Warm Springs Highway), MP 116
, Madras
Crews are performing cleanup work this week. No delays.

The US 97/US 26 Willow Creek Bridge - Depot Road Project reconfigured and signalized the intersection of US 97 and US 26 near the north city limits of Madras. This project provides safety and enhancement improvements in the City of Madras on US 26 / US 97 from the existing Willow Creek Bridges (MP 92.12) to the intersection of N.E. Plum Street (MP 91.84) and pavement improvements on U.S. 26 between N.E. Plum Street and N.E. Depot Street (MP 116.80).

Crews continue to work on the bridge deck on the east side of the structure, weather permitting. The deck is scheduled to be poured in early March. Minor delays possible.

Construction activities will take place in the area Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible. Motorists can expect delays of less than 15 minutes when traveling through this work zone. This project is expected to be complete in early 2006.

KLAMATH COUNTY
Tingley Lane (Midland Highway), MP 1.34

The bridge was closed in summer 2004 after damage was discovered in the bridge deck. It was opened later that year, but restricted to one lane, with a stop sign at each end. The new structure will be a two-span concrete slap bridge, 36 feet wide and 125 feet long. It will be able to handle modern-day loads and truck traffic.
