For more information contact Julianne Repman (541) 388-6224
Contractor crews anticipate opening the newly completed Ochoco bridge structure located at MP 108.9 during the week of March 21, weather permitting. Crews anticipate opening the bridge located at milepost (MP) 105.4 to traffic during the week of March 28. Flaggers will control motorist movements as traffic is switched to each new bridge. These two bridges are located 12 and 16 miles south of Madras on U.S. 97.
Once traffic is switched to the new structures, crews will work to remove the adjacent detour bridges. This work is anticipated to take place Monday through Friday, 6 am. to 6 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend construction activity possible. This bridge replacement project is expected to be completed in April 2005.
The $1.04 Million Ochoco Canal Bridge Replacement project is funded by the Oregon Transportation Investment Act (OTIA) http://www.odot.state.or.us/otia/otia3index.htm. The OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation's 10-year, $3 billion Oregon Transportation Investment Act program. During the next decade, OTIA will repair or replace hundreds of bridges, pave and maintain city and county roads, improve and expand interchanges, add new capacity to Oregon's highway system, and remove freight bottlenecks statewide. About 18 family-wage jobs are sustained for every $1 million spent on transportation construction in Oregon. Each year during the OTIA program, construction projects will sustain about 5,000 family-wage jobs.
