Central Oregon Road Construction
UPDATE: Week of April 10th
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is continuing to invest in Oregon’s future with roadway improvement projects throughout Oregon’s central region (ODOT Region 4). ODOT is committed to providing safe, efficient transportations systems. The following projects reflect ODOT’s commitment to make improvements as traffic numbers rise and to make the roadways safer and more efficient for drivers:
ALL WORK IS DEPENDENT UPON WEATHER
Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) maintenance crews will begin striping work on area Central Oregon highways on Sunday, April 9. Weather permitting, this work will continue through Thursday, April 13. Motorists are advised to slow down and keep a safe distance from the striping truck. Additionally, drivers are reminded to stay off fresh paint stripes on the highway surface.
CROOK COUNTY
OR 126 (Ochoco Highway), MP 17.9, Prineville
Crews will perform excavation and prepare for bridge construction. Traffic has been shifted. Expect intermittent lance closures between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., controlled by flaggers. Minimal traffic delays possible.
DESCHUTES COUNTY
OR 126 (McKenzie Highway), MP 111, Redmond
Highland Avenue is one way eastbound and Glacier Avenue is one way westbound. Ninth Street is one way northbound and 11th Street is one way southbound, between Highland and Forest avenues.
Crews are working along the north side of Highland Avenue, installing conduit and preparing the base rock. Crews from Cascade Natural Gas are working to install and new gas line along the south side of Highland Avenue. Traffic on Highland Ave. will be in a single lane between to two work areas.
Ninth Street at Highland Avenue will be closed during the day from Tuesday, April 12 to Friday, April 13. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Eighth Street.
Crews will work on curbs and sidewalks on the north side of Highland Avenue. Expect temporary closures of alleys and driveways throughout the week.
Sidewalks along the north and south side of Highland Avenue are closed during construction. Pedestrians are asked to find alternative routes through the area.
Intermittent closes of streets and alleys between Ninth and Fifth streets may take place. Local business access will be maintained.
US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 113.9, north of Terrebonne
Crews are preparing for paving operations in early May. No delays.
Wimp Way at US 97 in Terrebonne is temporarily closed to through traffic to facilitate replacement of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad Bridge and to ensure motorist safety during construction at this intersection.
This bridge is located about one mile north of Terrebonne on US 97 at milepost 113.9. During the first phase of construction, crews will construct a new, two-lane bridge with 10-foot shoulders to the west of the existing bridge.
Negus Way, Redmond
Bridge work continues at Negus Way, from North Canal Boulevard to the east side of the railroad tracks. Crews are constructing retaining walls and bridge supports.
Negus Way is closed between North Canal Boulevard and NE 5th St.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around the closure area, including the usage of the newly completed NE Ninth Street extension location between Negus Avenue and Hemlock Avenue.
US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 152-154, at South Century Drive, near Sunriver
Crews may be blasting in the area from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday-Friday Motorists can expect delays up to 10 minutes during this time.
Crews are also performing earthwork activities during the week, with no expected delays to traffic.
A full diamond interchange will be built to improve safety and operations at the existing intersection and to accommodate an increase in projected traffic. The interchange will consist of two-lane bridges for both north- and southbound traffic on US 97. South Century Drive will go under the two bridges, which are separated by a 120-foot vegetative median.
JEFFERSON COUNTY
US 26 (Warm Springs Highway), MP 116.36 – 116.80, West of Madras
Wildish Standard Paving Company is working to replace the existing, three lane Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail Road Bridge, west of Madras, with a new, wider, three-lane Bridge.
The shoulders of the new bridge have been paved and traffic has been switched to the northbound lanes. Crews continue to work on the structure and final paving is scheduled for early May. No delays.
Construction activities will take place in the area Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible. Motorists can expect delays of less than 15 minutes when traveling through this work zone. This project is expected to be complete in early 2006.
KLAMATH COUNTY
Tingley Lane (Midland Highway), MP 1.34, Klamath Falls
The Tingley Lane Bridge over the Lost River diversion canal is now open to one lane, controlled by stop signs. Yield to oncoming traffic and be aware of loose gravel. The contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation will replace the current aging, wood structure with a concrete bridge.
The bridge was closed in summer 2004 after damage was discovered in the bridge deck. It was opened later that year, but restricted to one lane, with a stop sign at each end. The new structure will be a two-span concrete slap bridge, 36 feet wide and 125 feet long. It will be able to handle modern-day loads and truck traffic.
OR 66 (Greensprings Highway) MP 43.48-44.08, west of Klamath Falls
Crews are working on the Spencer Bridge over the Klamath River. No delays anticipated.
US 97 (The Dalles-California Highway) MP 241, Spring Creek Hill
This project is in winter shutdown. Equipment may be in the area.
US 97 (The Dalles-California Highway) MP 243.9, Spring Creek Bridge
Bridge work has restarted. Expect minor delays.
US 97 (The Dalles-California Highway) MP 258 to MP 262
Crews are bringing equipment and materials to the area. Minor delays possible
US 97 (The Dalles-California Highway) MP 263.1, Barkley Springs Bridge
Bridge work has restarted. Expect minor delays.
US 97 (The Dalles-California Highway) MP 265.6, Algoma Bridge
Bridge work continues. Expect minor delays.
Algoma Road is still closed.
US 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 274.73, Klamath Falls
Traffic has been switched to the new bridge structure over California Avenue. Crews continue to cleanup the work site.
California Avenue has been reopened to traffic between North First and Conger Street. Intermittent closures may be possible.
US 97 (Dalles - California Highway), MP 275.8, Klamath Falls
Crews from Hamilton Construction Company are performing cleanup work at the US 97 Bridge over Greensprings Drive. One lane of traffic is opened in each direction. No delays expected.
OR 39 (Klamath Falls-Malin Highway) at OR 140 (South Klamath Falls Highway) MP 1.58-2.04, Klamath Falls
Crews will be installing pipe and doing ditch work. Flaggers may control motorists’ movements at times. Minor delays possible.
OR 140 (Lake of the Woods Highway), MP 50.81 to MP 57.06, at Doak Mountain, west of Klamath Falls
Work has been stopped for the winter. No delays expected.
LAKE COUNTY
OR 31 (Fremont Highway) MP 46.6-46.9, one mile west of Silver Lake
Work has started to replace the narrow, wood bridge with a new concrete structure. Crews may be working in the area. Expect minor delays.
OR 140 (Warner Highway) MP 17.39 – 18.50, US 395 (Freemont Highway) MP 128.57 – 142.64
This project is in winter shutdown. No delays.
This modernization project will realign and reconstruct Highway 140 to eliminate four curves, install safety features and replace the Parsnip Creek Bridge (MP 18.2) with a box culvert on the Warner Highway. Along, US 395, contractor crews will add two to three inches of new pavement on the Freemont Highway, north of Lakeview. This paving project will improve the aging highway surface in the area and includes upgrades to guardrail and constructing new mailbox turnouts. The project is anticipated to be finished in summer 2006.
