Motorist asked to use caution in work zones along US 97 in Klamath County
As bridge, shoulder, fence, barrier and rock fall work resumes along US 97 in Klamath County, motorists are asked to slow down and use caution in this and all work zones.
In addition, spring weather – including freeze/thaw cycles, rain, and soil drying out – can contribute to the increase of falling rocks. Travelers should be prepared for the possibility of rocks and debris on the highway near Klamath Lake, from Modoc Point to Hagelstein Park (mile point 258 to 263).
The project US 97: Spring Creek Hill to North Shady Pine Road includes replacing failing bridges and aging pavement, widening shoulders and increasing safety at rock fall areas. Work in the area started in December 2004 and this phase is scheduled to be completed in late 2006.
Motorists should expect delays during the construction season and remember that traffic fines double in work zones. For up-to-date road information, visit www.TripCheck.com or call 511.
