Greensprings Drive Closed Under US 97 to Aid Bridge Work
For more information contact Julianne Repman, ODOT Public Affairs, 541.388.6224
Hamilton Construction Company, in partnership with Klamath County, anticipates extending the 24-hour-per-day closure of Greensprings Drive—UNDER US 97—through December. US 97 remains OPEN OVER Greensprings Drive with traffic on the highway reduced to one lane in each direction.
The temporary closure of Greensprings Drive allows contractors to replace the US 97 Greensprings Bridge—located above the county roadway—while ensuring pedestrian and motorist safety as bridge replacement work takes place. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are advised to seek alternate routes around the section of Greensprings Drive that is currently closed below the bridge.
Transit service will remain on its current alternate route for the duration of the closure.
Project Summary: U.S. 97: Greensprings Bridge
The U.S. 97 bridge over Greensprings Drive is located at milepost 275.8 just south of the Klamath Falls city limits. The existing bridge is being removed, one-half at a time, and a new bridge is being constructed. The new bridge is expected to open to traffic in December 2005.
The project is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation's 10-year, $3 billion Oregon Transportation Investment Act (OTIA) program. During the next decade, OTIA will repair or replace hundreds of bridges, pave and maintain city and county roads, improve and expand interchanges, add new capacity to Oregon's highway system, and remove freight bottlenecks statewide. About 18 family-wage jobs are sustained for every $1 million spent on transportation construction in Oregon. Each year during the OTIA program, construction projects will sustain about 5,000 family-wage jobs.
