Expect lane closure during work tonight and Thursday in Prineville

Motorists should expect lane closures tonight and Thursday at the intersection of O’Neil Highway and the Ochoco Highway (OR 126) in Prineville. Workers for Qwest will install lines across the highway from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

During the work, one lane of traffic will be closed at a time. Flaggers will control motorist movements. Expect minor delays. Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution while traveling through the construction zone.

The work is part of the OR 126 Crooked River Bridge & US 26 Signal at Harwood Street project. The existing two-lane Crooked River Bridge, which has weight restrictions, is being replaced with structure capable of handling four-lanes of traffic in the future. The connection to O’Neil Highway, at the northwest end of the bridge, will be improved for truck-turning movements. The project will include sidewalks, retaining walls and the installation of ornamental lights and rails on the bridge.

In addition, safety and capacity will be increased at the US 26 and Harwood Street intersection. Improvements include installing a traffic signal, ADA ramps, crosswalk striping and the relocation of overhead utility lines.

The project is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2007. JAL Construction Inc. was awarded this $3.7 million construction project.
