Maple-Negus Bridge Project Groundbreaking
The Oregon Department of Transportation, the City of Redmond and Senator Ron Wyden invite the community to join them as they ceremonially break ground on the Maple-Negus Bridge Project on Friday, August 26 at 10:30 a.m. in Redmond.
Senator Ron Wyden will be the key speaker for this event. Also speaking are Redmond Mayor Alan Unger, Oregon Transportation Commissioner Randy Pape and other elected officials.
This project is underway thanks to local, state and federal partnerships and the hard work of the Oregon Congressional delegation, including Senator Ron Wyden, Senator Gordon Smith and U.S. Congressman Greg Walden. Together they helped to secure $14 million in federal investments for continued work on the US 97 Reroute project. This investment is part of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: a Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), a bipartisan bill reauthorizing critical funding for highway and transit projects approved by the Congress.
The Maple-Negus Bridge is Phase One Unit 1B of the US 97 Reroute project. Phase One Unit 2, completing the mainline highway section of the realignment, is expected to begin in spring 2006. The new alignment is expected to be open to motorists in 2008.
The US 97 Reroute Project will improve the area roadway system with the creation of a new, less congested north-south travel option for residents and visitors alike. Soon the delays, noise and air pollution created by the heavy truck traffic we see today on 5th and 6th Streets will be a thing of the past as those loads begin to utilize the new highway alignment. Additionally, the US 97 Reroute will improve north-south and east-west traffic flow with the development of a new highway alignment and the Maple-Negus bridge.
NOTE: Attendees are encouraged to park on NE 2nd St., near Aspire Fitness, and walk to the ceremonial site and join fellow residents and state and local officials. NE 2nd is location off of North Canal Boulevard The event will take place along Negus Avenue between North Canal Boulevard and the railroad tracks. Plan to arrive early or stay a little late to enjoy refreshments provided by the City of Redmond.
