Glacier Avenue will be closed between 9th and 12th streets for road improvements
Access to homes and business will be maintained during closure
Glacier Avenue, between 9th and 12th streets in Redmond, will be closed starting Saturday, Aug. 13 in order to reconstruct the street. A section of 11th Street, between Glacier and Highland Avenues will also be closed. The closure is expected to last for three weeks.
Crews for Hap Taylor and Sons, the project contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation, will construct curbs and sidewalks, and make improvements to the roadway. Storm drain system piping will also be installed during the closure.
Home and business access will be maintained during the closure. Signs will be posted to alert motorists of the closed roads and Redmond emergency services will be notified, as well.
Work to Glacier Avenue is part of the Glacier-Highland Couplet project, which is currently underway. The purpose of the project is to alleviate congestion along Highland Avenue (OR 126) and add safety facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists.
When the project is complete, Highland Avenue will accommodate eastbound traffic and Glacier Avenue will be used for westbound traffic. Other improvements include a pedestrian under-crossing, which will allow a safer passage for those crossing the highway between Sam Johnson Park and the future Ray Johnson Park, new sidewalks, ornamental lighting, and landscaping. The project is expected to be complete in late 2006.
