Wildish Standard Paving Company crews anticipate breaking ground on the U.S. 26 Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Madras Bridge Replacement Project during the week of Oct. 25. The BNSF Madras Bridge is located on U.S. 26 at mile point (MP) 116.6, just north of Madras. Crews anticipate working Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible.
Traffic will be reduced by one lane through this construction area to facilitate bridge replacement work. Motorists can expect delays of less than 15 minutes when traveling through this work zone.
BNSF Madras Bridge Replacement
The BNSF Madras Bridge Replacement Project will occur in two phases. During phase one, crews will close one of two northbound lanes on U.S. 26 at MP 116.6 to facilitate the removal of the eastern half of the bridge. At this time, crews will replace the existing eastern half of the structure and widen the northbound lanes of the highway by an additional 14 feet.
During the second phase of construction, traffic will shift to the newly constructed lanes while work takes place on the west side of the bridge. One southbound lane will close to facilitate this phase of replacement work. Wildish anticipates completing this bridge replacement by fall 2005.
The $1.8 million BNSF Madras Bridge Replacement project is funded by the Oregon Transportation Investment Act (OTIA) http://www.odot.state.or.us/otia/otia3index.htm. The Oregon Legislature created OTIA to repair and replace Oregon’s cracked and aging bridges.
