ODOT to honor Adopt-A-Highway volunteers
NOTE: THIS IS NOT OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
The Oregon Department of Transportation will honor those who keep our highways litter-free during an Adopt-A-Highway event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Shilo Inn. Members of the media are invited to attend.
More than 150 members from 45 Adopt-A-Highway groups from Klamath and Lake counties will attend the 15th Anniversary and Recognition event. During the event, Klamath County Commissioner Al Switzer (a new Adopt-A-Highway volunteer) and ODOT District Manager Mike Stinson will thank the volunteers for their hard work. The Shilo Inn has kindly donated the use of the room, wait staff and beverages. Attendees will also be treated to sandwiches and cake provided by ODOT.
The Keno Lions Club, Sky Trails Ranch, and South Suburban Lions Club will be recognized for having been volunteers since Adopt-A-Highway started in 1991. The Adopt-a-Highway program saves the state money and keeps Oregon clean. The work of volunteers saves ODOT from hiring a crew to clean those sections of the road. A crew of four maintenance specialists plus a truck would cost $92 each hour to clean.
