US 97: Midland Rest Area, south of Klamath Falls, to close in November for construction
The Midland Rest Area, eight miles south of Klamath Falls on US 97, will close on Nov. 14 for construction of a new facility. The rest area, which is located at mile post 282, is scheduled to reopen in May 2006.
During the closure, a new restroom building will be constructed. It will be twice as big as the current building to allow for better service and future increase in use.
The information center, which has a history of roof and heating and cooling problems, will also be worked on. The roof will be replaced and the heating/cooling system improved.
Travelers need to be aware that the rest stop will be closed during construction. The closest rest areas on US 97 are Collier State Park, 30 miles north of Klamath Falls at mile point 244, and Grass Lake rest area, 20 miles north of Weed, Calif.
