OR 126: Highland and Glacier Avenues to become one way in Redmond

A major milestone in the Oregon Department of Transportation OR 126 Glacier-Highland Couplet Project in Redmond is scheduled for the morning of Nov. 21, when Highland Avenue (OR 126) becomes one way for eastbound traffic and Glacier Avenue becomes one way for westbound traffic.  Glacier Avenue ties back into Highland Avenue through a new alignment at 15th Street.  A map of the new configuration is attached.

In addition, Ninth Street will be one way for northbound traffic from Highland to Forest avenues, and 11th Street will be one way southbound from Forest to Highland avenues. North Canal Boulevard will be one way northeast bound from its south end to Glacier Avenue.

New signals have been constructed on Glacier Avenue at Sixth, Ninth and 11th Streets.

Crews will be onsite starting Sunday morning and will work through the night to prepare for the switch. Motorists need to be aware of workers in the area and changes in traffic patterns.

The purpose of the Glacier-Highland Couplet project is to alleviate congestion along Highland Avenue and add safety facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists. Improvements include a pedestrian under-crossing, which will allow a safer passage for those crossing the highway between Sam Johnson Park and the future Ray Johnson Park, new sidewalks, ornamental lighting, and landscaping. The project is expected to be complete in late 2006.
