Central Oregon  Road Construction

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) www.oregon.gov/ODOT is continuing to invest in Oregon’s future with roadway improvement projects throughout Oregon’s central region (ODOT Region 4). ODOT is committed to providing safe, efficient transportations systems. The following projects reflect ODOT’s commitment to make improvements as traffic numbers rise and to make the roadways safer and more efficient for drivers:
 
DESCHUTES COUNTY
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 129.77 – 129.68
, between Bend & Redmond near Deschutes Market Road
Wildish Standard Paving Company is working to replace the Pilot Butte Canal Bridge, located north of Bend near Deschutes Market Road. Crews will be performing embankment work and installation of a culvert in the work zone this week. Traffic has shifted to the west side of the highway to facilitate construction of the new bridge structure. The construction speed is 45 miles-per-hour. Crews anticipate making a traffic shift to the east side of the highway during the week of December 20.
 
Daytime traffic is not expected to be delayed during this construction project. Motorists traveling between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. may encounter traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.
 
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 113.9, north of Terrebonne
Wildish Standard Paving Company anticipates breaking ground on the BNSF Terrebonne Bridge Project, north of Terrebonne, during the week of December 6.  This bridge is located about one mile north of Terrebonne on U.S. 97 at milepost 113.9.  During the first phase of construction, crews will construct a new, two lane bridge with 10 foot shoulders to the west of the existing bridge. Traffic will remain on the existing bridge during construction.  Motorists will be routed to the new bridge in Fall 2005.  Following this traffic switch, crews will remove the existing bridge.
 
Crews anticipate working Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible. Motorists can expect delays of less than 5 minutes when traveling through this work zone.
 
JEFFERSON COUNTY
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 105.4 - 109.03
, South of Madras
Wildish Standard Paving Company is working to replace the Ochoco Canal Bridges, south of Madras. Contractor crews anticipate switching traffic to the new detour bridges during the week of December 6. Once traffic is switched to the detours, the existing bridges will be demolished and construction of the permanent bridge will begin.
 
These two bridges are located 12 and 16 miles south of Madras on U.S. 97 at mileposts 105.4 and 108.9.  Crews anticipate working Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with intermittent night and weekend work possible. Motorists can expect delays of less than 5 minutes when traveling through this work zone.
 
U.S. 26 (Warm Springs Highway), MP 116.36 – 116.80, West of Madras
Wildish Standard Paving Company is working to replace the existing, three lane Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail Road Bridge, west of Madras, with a new, wider, three lane bridge. Crews will be clearing trees and shrubs and doing embankment work in the work zone shoulders this week.  These construction activities should have little to no impact to motorists.
 
KLAMATH COUNTY
U.S. 97 (The Dalles – California Highway), MP 275
, Klamath Falls
Crews from Hamilton Construction Company are working to replace the U.S. 97 Bridge over Green Springs Drive. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction near MP 275, over the Green Springs Bridge. Temporary concrete barriers, attenuators and plastic drums, separate travel lanes.  The construction speed of 35 miles per hour is strictly enforced.
 
OR. 140 (Lake of the Woods Highway), MP 50.81 - 57.06, at Doak Mountain, West of Klamath Falls
Contractor crews are excavating and performing embankment work – weather permitting. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.  Motorists can expect up to 20-minute delays when traveling through this area.
 
OR. 66 (Greensprings Highway), MP 49.96 - MP 59.05 &
Hwy. 424 (South Klamath Falls Highway), MP 0.0 - MP 0.72 &
Orindale Road at Junction of OR. 66 and Hwy. 140
, West of Klamath Falls
Contractor crews are performing minor cleanup work in the area this week – weather permitting.  Flaggers are providing traffic control.  Motorists can expect 20-minute delays when traveling through this work zone.
 
U.S. 97 (Dalles - California Highway), MP 200.3 - 202.3, North of Chemult
JAL Construction crews have suspended work at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Bridge Replacement Project and Passing Lanes Project in Chemult for the winter season. Work is anticipated to start at this site again in the spring of 2005, weather permitting.
 
WASCO COUNTY
I-84 over Webber Street, The Dalles
As of Friday, Nov. 12, traffic on I-84 has been reduced to one lane in each direction at mile point 83.5 in The Dalles
. Traffic has shifted to the east side of the interstate as contractor crews work to replace the west side of the Webber Street Bridge (U.S. 30). This alignment is expected to remain in place for two months. Once complete, traffic will be switched to the west side of the interstate for replacement of the east side of the structure. The entire project is expected to be completed by May 2005.
 
Highway 293 (Antelope Highway), MP 0 –  9, Willowdale to Antelope
Crews are performing paving, guardrail installation and striping work at the Antelope Creek Bridge Project. Traffic is reduced to one lane under a stop sign controlled, self-regulating lane closure at the Antelope Creek Bridge at MP 1.0. Crews are also working at the Indian Creek Bridge (MP 8.86) this week. Some motorist movements will be controlled by flaggers. Motorists can expect delays of less than 20-minutes when traveling through the area. This project is scheduled to be completed in December.
 
WHEELER COUNTY
U.S. 26 (Ochoco Highway), MP 62.54 – MP 65.83
, near Mitchell
Contractors will drill for core and soil samples on the Ochoco Highway (U.S. 26) near Mitchell (MP 62.54 – MP 65.83) between 7am and 5pm, December 7 through 9 - weather permitting. The samples will be used to gather construction information for the future bridge replacement of three area structures.
 
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in either direction through the work zone with motorist movements controlled by flaggers.
